“Unkempt" is a love letter to the soft mammal fuzz on our skin, a middle finger to shame and stigma, and a retrospective on why we've come to groom how we groom. This dance theatre performance and accompanying workshop weaves together research and diverse personal stories that examine the past and present of body hair removal through a sociocultural lens. This award from NEFA would go towards dancer stipends for the development of another 20 minutes of choreography to add on to the existing 25 minute work in progress. The 45 minute production will be presented at a community space in May of 2025 and followed by an accessible and interactive movement workshop.
