During our first year of producing this event, the city of San Antonio chose not to include
the block of Houston St that we occupied in the group of blocks shut down to street traffic.
While we were still included in the celebrations we felt this choice made it difficult for
people to stop and share space with us as opposed to engaging as they walked on the
crowded sidewalks to the safely blocked off area in the street. This funding would allow us
to expand our budget to bring a larger production of work to the stage. We feel that by
increasing our capacity, we can increase our ability to bring more artists to the lineup and
essentially create an additional stage for this event, encouraging the city to include our
block in the protected area. We aim to present 3 days of staged productions which include
but are not limited to traditional West African dance, live music performances, &
community dance party.
