The Jazz Education Network Conference is a community where educators, students, pros, and aficionados share and learn from each other, and attend a multitude of workshops, panels, and performances to learn collaboratively and connect with fellow JEN members and jazz and contemporary music experts.
At this conference, Brinae Ali and her team presented The Baby Laurence Legacy Project, which is an immersive, interdisciplinary performance that celebrates the life and legacy of iconic Jazz Tap Dancer Donald “Baby Laurence” Jackson (1921-1974). Through choreography, compositions, improvisation, and archival research, audiences learn about Baby Laurence’s enduring impact on Jazz Music and tap dance in America.
