BACKGROUND STATEMENT: The Porter Phelps Huntington Museum, known since 1752 as Forty Acres, will celebrate the 30th season of its popular Wednesday Folk Traditions concert series during seven weeks in June and July. The series which began as an outreach program to the area community is our most successful summer event, attracting over 20,000 people in the past ten years. Donations, grants and income generated by the series help support the museum's educational programs. The Museum tells the story of six generations of one prominent family of Yankee heritage and the many household and farm laborers employed at the 600 acre farmstead, including indentured servants and slaves. Through the Wednesday Folk Traditions series we also tell the stories of the rich ethnic mix of people who comprise the Pioneer Valley today, thus creating a valuable link between the Museum and its surrounding communities, between the h
