The Capitol Center for the Arts has engaged slam poet and jazz singer Iyoeka Okoawo for a two-day residency, during which she will perform twice -- once as part of the Center's School Series, targeted to students in grades 7-12, and once in a public performance in the Center's 250-seat Spotlight Cafe. On day two of the residency she will conduct three separate in-school poetry workshops specifically targeted to the region's ESL (English as a second language) students.
