Kyra Climbingbear

Through music and dance, Kyra Climbingbear is able to express her background growing up in a bicultural home. In order to continue cultural preservation and to encourage Native youth of today to embrace their musical traditions, Kyra will travel to the Cherokee reservation to learn songs from tribal elder Myrtle Driver. Kyra plans to incorporate Cherokee vocables and drum beats into her own original compositions. In exchange, Kyra will teach Myrtle how to use recording equipment on her computer so she can tape herself leading Cherokee courses.
