Café Variations is a dance/music/theater piece that is adjustable in scale and expense featuring scenes from the many Café plays of Charles Mee and music from the American musical songbook. Café Variations can be arranged in alternative versions, shapes, and sizes that are appropriate to large proscenium theaters as well as black box theaters, museum atriums, and libraries. It is our hope that the modules of Café Variations will become viral in the sense that once created, actors everywhere can perform them in diverse environments. In the spirit of Charles Mee, the work will eventually belong to anyone who comes into contact with it.
