Portland Institute for Contemporary Art presents Ralph Lemon's SCAFFOLD ROOM a _x001C_lecture-performance-musical_x001D_ that refracts ideas of the modern vs. archetypal. Three performers (Okwui Okpokwasili and April Matthis live, with the 86-year old Edna Carter and her extended family on video), play into assumptions about prevailing cultural body-politics. Their sources are drawn from popular entertainment, speculative fiction and history, including iconic figures such as Beyoncé, Moms Mabley, Amy Winehouse, Kathy Acker, and Adele.
