johnbrown is Dean Moss' most recent production of the white abolitionist’s legacy. This new work questions the historical narrative of white, 19th century abolitionist, John Brown, whose raid on Harper’s Ferry in 1859 raised controversy due to Brown’s violent abolitionist stance. Presented in seven semi-autonomous segments titled after individual articles of John Brown’s Provisional Constitution of 1858, johnbrown melds an immersive multi-disciplinary installation with physically rigorous dance performance to create a dark, wry meditation on the legacy on this controversial historic figure.
