Walker Art Center

The Walker will provide commissioning, residency, and presentations for Soft Goods, a new dance/performance work created by Minneapolis-based artist Karen Sherman in collaboration with nine stage technicians and dancers. Soft Goods uses dance, manual labor, improvised text, the rituals of backstage life, and the choreography of production equipment to examine work, aliveness, death, disappearance, and occupational self-obliteration. Walker support to the artist and company includes work-light residencies in summer 2015 and March 2016; developmental residency in August 2016; and a final production residency week leading up to the world premiere in December 2016 and a US tour.
