Bebe Miller Company’s In a Rhythm is a suite of works and accompanying events focused on the dance-making process, created during a yearlong dialogue between Miller and choreographer Susan Rethorst. Based on the dynamics of adaptation and translation, and inspired by the writings of Gertrude Stein, Toni Morrison and David Foster Wallace—whose voices capture diverse cultural relevancies through their structure of language, Choreographer Miller is looking at the syntax of movement—how we apprehend meaning through the juxtaposed dynamics of action and context in time and space. An adaptable suite of dances, along with workshops with Miller, can be designed for each venue. Estimated artist fee: $18,000 + housing/performance, with workshop options available; $25,000 + housing/ week, with a mix of performances and workshops.
