The Nuts and Bolts of Being a Performing Artist

NEFA invites New England performing artists listed in CreativeGround to apply to participate in a free two-day crash course for performing artists on May 23-24 in Boston. Learn the ins and outs of running a creative business from two working artist/educators who will cut through the confusion with a high dose of humor. Participants will be equipped with tools that can be implemented right away, including the fun and effective Business Model Canvas, while having the business-speak explained from an arts-based perspective. 

Topics include business models, marketing, public relations, fundraising, fiscal sponsorship, insurance, grant writing, self-producing your work, touring your work regionally and nationally, working with presenting organizations/curators, helpful arts advocates/allies/networks, and life budgeting and financial literacy.

This program is offered by NEFA in partnership with Assets for Artists and the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston.

You must plan to attend both days at NEFA's Boston Office and cover any costs associated with travel or accommodations. Space is extremely limited. Artists with updated CreativeGround profiles will be given priority.

Seth Lepore
Seth Lepore is a performing artist, educator, and connector. His popular workshops for performing artists have been hosted by Springboard for the Arts, Assets for Artists, The Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston, and the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council. He is currently writing a book entitled Ruthless Reciprocity: A Living Document to Transform the Performing Arts Community.

Amy Smith
Amy Smith is a Founder and Co-Director of Headlong Dance Theater and the Headlong Performance Institute in Philadelphia. She has worked in dance, theater and cabaret, as a choreographer, director and performer. Amy is also renowned for her teaching of financial literacy through Creative Capital's Professional Development Program.
