International Mayan League

International Maya League will present Grupo Sotz’il’s U.S. premier of U'ku'x Ulew as a Commemorative Performance for the 10 year anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples on September 10th, 2017. Additionally, Grupo Sotz’il will be in a 10-day artistic residency with the project's primary participants (Maya Mam and Maya Ixil youth); the artistic residency and workshop is open to native and non-native youth in the area. In the intensive multi-day workshop, Grupo Sotz’il will make presentations on the history & philosophy of Maya performance, offer workshops on Grupo Sotz’il’s dance methodology and creative process; and teach instrument and mask making techniques.
