ODC Theater will present a three-performance run of “ELECTROGYNOUS” d. Sabela Grimes, a United States Artists Rockefeller Fellow, from August 16-18, 2019, as part of ODC Theater’s Walking Distance Dance Festival alongside a handful of renowned dance artists like Bay-Area based Mary Armentrout. Through a mix of ancient funk, futuristic soundscapes, video architectures, and kinetic poetics, “ELECTROGYNOUS” challenges modern systemic racism by broadcasting the inclusion of liberated Black bodies on stage as a political act. The multidisciplinary performance proclaims the infinite dimensions of the Black gender spectrum to counter historically imposed notions of femininity and masculinity.
