Develop and create A Deepest Blue, which uses an origin myth shared by Cambodia and Japan to imagine a descent into the primordial ocean. The multidisciplinary dance project brings together Khmer classical dance, gagaku court music, Japanese Buddhist drumming and chanting, and holographic animation—weaving between science and spirituality—to question the place and responsibility of humanity in the global climate crisis. Rehearsals will take place in Cambodia and Japan, and via Zoom, before a world premiere in the San Francisco Bay Area. Performances are accompanied by programs organized with ARTogether, enriching the urgent environmental conversation with the voices of immigrant communities.
