Connecticut College - Onstage Series

The Lives of Giants is Cambodian choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro's ambitious and groundbreaking dance/music work for the Khmer Arts Ensemble. Tour presenters will collaborate with a scholar in order to gain an understanding of Cambodian mythology and the relationships between Ramayana, Hindu, and Buddhist cultures. Through alliances with other organizations the presenters will also seek to broaden the impact of this tour, bringing recognition of the importance the dance performance holds in the social, cultural, and socio-economic needs confronting Cambodia today. Ancillary activities include dance masterclasses, backstage costume and design talks, student matinees, community dinners, and panel discussions.
