SUPERCELL is an evening-length multidisciplinary quintet, responding to climate consciousness and environmental collapse. The work explores a storm as a haunting representation of society’s hypnotic connection to media sensationalism, desensitization, and climate disasters. Performers navigate a world amidst environmental fallout, inviting audiences to follow as they experience fragmentation from the push and pull between the numbing effects of the hypnotic storm, and their desire to cultivate hope within continually uncertain times. Throughout the creation process the project will form and consult with advisory cohorts composed of scientists, climate activists, anthropologists, sustainable design experts, and a dramaturgical advisor. Our mission to work within intersectional, collaborative, non-hierarchical power structures invites the questioning of our own responses to the research and allows for multiple truths to emerge in the reception and interpretation of the work.

SUPERCELL is being created in collaboration with slowdanger (direction/sound design/choreography/performers), ProjectileObjects (scenic design), Jasmine Hearn (sound design/dramaturgy), Nile Harris (performer/text), kira shiina (performer), AJ Libert (performer), and Mad Recital (costume design).
